What is the Young Composers' Collaboration Project?
Founded in 2013, the Young Composers’ Collaboration Project was designed to expose students to the compositional process from start to finish. Students begin with guided improvisation sessions in which they are taught some basics of music theory and harmonic progressions. They compose their own arrangements in chamber-style groups for shared performance and critique. Each student is then given the opportunity to submit an original melody to the project through standard notation or audio recording. Mr. Matt Osika, Acting Director of the Hochstein Philharmonia and Assistant Director of the Hochstein Sinfonia, takes the students’ melodies and weaves them into a larger orchestral work. Students rehearse the work with the composer as a professional ensemble, making changes and edits as needed. Students choose a name for each work and give the world premiere performance.

Below you will find recordings of some original works and transcriptions. Please excuse the lack of sensitivity in the synthesized recordings - Finale 2014 and GPO 4 can only do so much. This list will continue to grow - thanks for your patience!
